Case 1: opening profit disappears when you count the work

Historical observation: Danny Phantump’s 2021 Fusion Strike review reports results from 36 booster boxes. Near the conclusion, he explains that the apparent surplus depends on bulk/code proceeds and shrinks after supplies, payment costs, shipping, and other expenses. V19, approximately 19:50–21:35.

What this supports: a gross contents valuation is not a completed profit calculation.

What it does not support: the same result for every Fusion Strike box, current prices, or a promised outcome after opening two boxes. A sample distribution does not guarantee the next purchases will balance each other.

Procedure: run an opening experiment only with a fixed entertainment/research budget. Inventory everything, record actual proceeds rather than display prices, include all costs, and keep unsold cards visible in the result. Do not present a profitable-looking total as realized profit while most items remain unsold.

Case 2: the missing ingredient is an actual sale

The Tolarian selling guide starts from a simple distinction: pulling a card with a quoted price is not receiving cash. Its comparison of selling avenues shows why convenience and potential proceeds should be evaluated together. V08, 00:00–00:50.

Analysis: an inventory system should contain both valuation fields and transaction fields. Otherwise it is easy to confuse a marked-up collection with a profitable business. Require actual payout data before calling a transaction complete.

Case 3: a useful old video contains an invalid modern rule

PrimetimePokemon’s 2011 counterfeit guide treats a displayed 300 HP card as obviously fake in its contemporary examples and demonstrates destructive tests. Do not carry those shortcuts forward as general authentication rules. V16, 00:00–01:35.

Verified correction: Pokémon’s own database lists the authentic Obsidian Flames Charizard ex 223/227 at 330 HP. The relevant comparison is the exact official card, not a fixed maximum HP remembered from an older era. Official Charizard ex card record.

Procedure: retain the broad idea of comparing known authentic examples, reject obsolete universal rules, and do not damage a card to test it.

Case 4: a channel corrects its own older material

Inkborn Heroes’ 2024 rarity guide describes the original six Lorcana rarities. Its description points to an updated 2025 guide that includes Epic and Iconic. V21, historical guide, V25, updated guide at 00:00.

What this supports: a video’s publication date and description are part of the evidence. A popular older explainer may remain useful while no longer being complete.

Procedure: before saving a rule into a permanent knowledge base, check for a creator correction and a manufacturer update. Keep the earlier source with a “superseded” label so the reason for the change remains understandable.

Case 5: collector demand and player demand are different

ArtressTCG evaluates One Piece starter cards by their relevance to particular decks, while TCG Monkey discusses ways to structure a collection. These approaches answer different purchase questions. V23, 06:23–07:40, V20, 06:02–07:19.

Analysis: deck adoption can help explain demand for game pieces. It cannot, by itself, establish the premium for rare artwork. When analyzing an expensive version, separate the cost of obtaining the card’s function from the extra amount buyers pay for that specific object.

Insight: the value of a knowledge base is partly what it refuses to promote into a fact.
